People with Disabilities Still Discriminated

Persons with disabilities in the capital city are still experiencing discrimination, especially in terms of getting a job. There are many companies who are not willing to hire people with disabilities due to less productive reason. In fact, in Law No. 4/1997 on Disability, it mentions of one percent employment quota that is allocated for persons with disabilities.

In fact, there has been law governing the existence of quota for persons with disabilities working in companies. But it is still has not run by the companies. "There is law. The quota is 1 percent of the total number of employees in the companies," Priyono explained. "Although they have disabilities, they have high fighting spirit," added Priyono.

Previously, the Disnakertrans has ever given welding specialize training for persons with disabilities. As a matter of fact, many who could even set up their own business. "At that time, there were 16 persons with disabilities were trained for welding. And the result is good, and there are self-employed," Priyono stated.

Priyono deplored, there are no regulations that could be imposed and give sanctions for companies that have not meet the quota. "Yes, there are rules that impose sanctions on companies that do not meet its quota. That's Why we continue to disseminate so that the companies could open up opportunities for persons with disabilities," he hoped.

Priyono said that the job fair is one way taken by Jakarta Provincial Government to bring companies with job seekers. "So there is no communication gap. Both sides can directly meet, and choose what is needed," he uttered.
